A Second Life For A Yellow School Bus

January 19th, 2012 11:03am - Posted By: Connie and Shari

A transformation story. (Cue back to school special music.)

We purchased our beloved bus over a year ago. We must confess. She wasn't the first bus we bought. The first bus we bought was a big, fat, mistake, which (thankfully), we realized right away. After kicking that bus to the curb, we found OUR bus.

It was love at first sight. Or something like that.

We drove her to her new Colorado home in the midst of a snowstorm. She did great.

Since bringing her home, she's had a substantial amount of work done. (Though perhaps not quite as much as Joan Rivers. But still.)

Here's a few pictures of her amazing transformation:

Getting a face lift.

We love the big spoon on the side!

Look at all that beautiful stainless steel!

Doesn't she look beautiful????!!!!!!

Very, very soon you'll see her out and about on the streets of Boulder. We'll alert you when we start posting our routs, of course, and we really hope you stop by and say hello. We'll even feed you.  You can also follow us on Twitter to follow the bus all over town.

We're so glad you're coming along for the ride,

They say "All-Natural", and they actually mean it.

January 12th, 2012 11:11pm - Posted By: Connie and Shari

They say "All-Natural". And, they actually mean it.

Towards the end of last year, we discovered Yokibliss, a truly innovative and forward thinking frozen yogurt company.

We were determined that the Go Purple Bus frozen yogurt be ultra creamy, rich and all natural. We wanted it to be delicious - decadent even - without any trace of chemicals, dyes and food stabilizers. That's exactly what you get with Yokibliss yogurt. We found that when we started with Yokibliss and then added some Noosa Yoghurt, we ended up with the best Greek frozen yogurt we'd ever tasted. Ever. (And we've tasted a LOT of frozen yogurt.)

In last week's newsletter article, we shared our conversation with Paul Mathewson of Noosa Yoghurt. This week, we spent some time talking with Sloan Anderson, owner of Yokibliss.

First off, Yokibliss is 100% natural, and as it turns out, this is unique in the frozen yogurt market. While many products claim to be "All-Natural", most actually aren't. Most frozen yogurt products are loaded with dyes, chemicals and stabilizers and food additives that really aren't at all healthy.

"When you look at the ingredients list, it's shocking. It's almost offensive. You feel like you're being conned. to us, it seems lie a bait and switch to pawn something like that off as a healthy and natural product when, in fact, it's not. Right now the FDA doesn't mandate what 'All Natural'. We stick to the Whole Foods standard of All Natural, which is a huge black list of ingredients that they won't let in their stores."

Another thing we learned from Sloan is that many frozen yogurt products are actually just ice cream with live bacteria added at the end of processing. Yokibliss starts with actual yogurt to create their frozen yogurt. And they use actual fruit puree to flavor their yogurt. "We use real ingredients which, unfortunately today, seems almost like a lost concept."

Real yogurt and real fruit. Revolutionary.

We asked Sloan what he is most proud of when it comes to Yokibliss. Here's what he told us: "I'm most proud of our integrity. Yokibliss is a quickly growing company and we've been able to keep pace without cutting any corners. We make sure that every flavor we produce has the real thing in it... no one else does that. We produce a premium product that is also authentic."

You can find Yokibliss in yogurt, ice cream, and coffee shops throughout the Front Range, as far north as Fort Collins and as far south as Colorado Springs. And this summer, you'll find it on the Go Purple Bus.

Currently, Yokibliss produces nearly 50 flavors, ranging from the more "typical" vanilla and berry flavors, to the more exotic - green tea, pomegranate, green apple kiwi, and eggnog, for example.

So, dear reader, what flavors would you most like to see on the big purple bus this summer? (Click here to see the flavor list!)

We're so glad you're coming along for the ride,

G'day Mate!

January 5th, 2012 10:49pm - Posted By: Connie and Shari

One day last year, we brought home a container of Noosa Yoghurt. From the first bite, we were hooked. This stuff is good. Seriously. We can't get enough.

In developing our frozen yogurt recipe, it was a no-brainer to add some Noosa Yoghurt. The result was an ultra creamy, rich Greek frozen yogurt. Eureka!

Yesterday, we spent a few minutes chatting with Paul Mathewson, one of the founders of Noosa Yoghurt. Paul and his brother Grant have been producing yoghurt in Australia for the last 10 years, starting the company with their Grandmother's yoghurt recipe.

"As kids, we used to spend a lot of time at Grandma's place. She was a fantastic cook and used to make yoghurt every Christmas. If she knew you were coming, she'd whip up a batch [of yoghurt]. My brother found some yoghurt in Sydney that people were tripping over to get and he thought it tasted just like Grandma's. We saw an opportunity to take a family recipe and make something of it and Grandma was only too happy to hand over the recipe."

They were so successful in Australia that they expanded into New Zealand in 2006. In 2009, they partnered with Morning Fresh Dairy and began setting up operations here in Colorado.

Although they are now in variety of other countries (they are also in England, and are launching in Japan this February), they are not a big multi-national company, operating under a typical corporate structure. The operation here in Colorado is between Paul and his brother, mother, and father. They are laid-back, fun-loving and down to earth. (And, they speak with an Australian accent. Which, honestly, just makes everything more enjoyable.)

Like Noosa, Morning Fresh Dairy Farm is also family-owned and operated. (The farm has been in the same family since 1894.)

Noosa set up operations right on the farm. "The cows are here, they are milked here. It's a pretty closed system. Everything is done right there on the farm. You can't get any fresher than that."

Paul is very proud of their product - as he should be. Their yoghurt is really, really good. It's produced in small batches from ingredients of the highest quality. It's thick and rich, with low sugar, high protein and no bitterness. (We also love their clear packaging because you can actually see the yogurt and the fresh fruit. And, it looks cool.)

Using Noosa Yoghurt makes our frozen Greek yogurt especially scrumptious and supports our commitment to local responsibility and support. It's a win-win.

We're so glad you're coming along for the ride,
